What we believe

As a Church, we are very clear on what we believe.   What follows is called a "Statement of Faith".  It sets out some of the doctrinal building blocks that affect how we operate as a church and as individual Christians.

  1. We believe that the Bible is God’s revealed Word to humanity and that the Holy Spirit supernaturally inspired every word, as it was being written down by various human authors. The Bible is accurate, applicable to our everyday lives and is the final authority on all matters of faith and living.

    2 Tim 3:16; 1 Corinthians 2:13

  2. We believe in one eternal God, who is the creator of all things and existing in three distinguishable persons – God the Father, God the Son and God, the Holy Spirit. Each fully God yet each personally distinct from the other. God is totally loving, completely holy and the source of every good thing.

    Matt 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

  3. We believe all people are created in the image of God and therefore we are morally and spiritually responsible to God.

    Gen 1:26-27

  4. We believe that sin has separated humanity from God and caused humanity to fall from original perfection and God’s ultimate purpose for our lives. Sinful people need saving and God has determined a day when all must give an account for how they have lived their lives. God loves and cares for sinful people and desires to forgive and save all humanity.

    Romans 2:6-8, 3:23, 5:12-18, 6:23; 2 Peter 3:9

  5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ as both God and man is the only one who can reconcile us to God. We believe he was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, thus being uniquely the Son of God – truly God and truly man. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross for our sins in our place, was buried and rose again on the third day, appearing to the disciples after his resurrection, proving his victory over death and Satan.

    Luke 1:16-35; 1 John 1:14; Isaiah 7:14, 9:6; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 4:25

  6. We believe in the salvation of sinners by grace, through repentance of sins and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. As a believer in Jesus we choose to submit to his Lordship and will for our lives. By Christ’s death believers obtain forgiveness of sins and freedom from the bondage the devil seeks to impose upon humanity.

    Rom 10:9-10; Eph 2:8-9; Heb 9:12; Rom 5:11

  7. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as he promised.

    Matt 24:44; Acts 1:11

  8. We believe in the importance of believers being baptised in water by immersion, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in order to fulfill the command of the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Matt 28:19; Acts 2:34-36; 19:1-6

  9. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a real and necessary experience for all believers to have if they are going to be fruitful and effective witnesses for Jesus Christ. This experience comes with the supernatural evidence of speaking in tongues, releasing God’s power into believer’s lives.

    Acts 2:1-4; 8:14-17; 10:44-46; Gal 3:14-16; Eph 5:18; 1 Cor 14:1-4

  10. We believe Christ intends his church in this generation to experience the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and to evidence the power of God as the early church did.

    1 Cor 12-14; Acts 2-3

  11. We believe the Holy Spirit changes people’s lives and empowers’ believers to grow in holiness and in faith and to express more and more of the life of God and the values of God’s Kingdom.

    Eph 5:18; 2 Cor 6:14; 7:1

  12. We believe that God has individually called and equipped us so that we can successfully achieve his purpose and unique destiny for our lives.

    Eph 2:10, 4:7; 1 Cor 12:4-11; 1 Peter 4:10; Jer 1:4-5

  13. We believe God heals people today physically, emotionally and spiritually so that we can live healthy and prosperous lives in order to help others more effectively.

    Acts 4:30; Rom 8:11; 1 Cor 12:9; James 5:14; 1 Peter 2:24

  14. We believe in the value and importance of the ‘Lords Table’, commonly called Communion for believers.

    1 Cor 11:28-32; Matt 26:26-28;

  15. We believe that our eternal destination of either heaven or hell is determined by our faith response to the Lord Jesus Christ.

    John 3:16, 5:24; Mark 9:43-48; Rev 20:10-15

  16. We believe in the reality and personality of the devil and eternal judgment in the Lake of fire for the devil and his angels.

    Matt 25:41; Rev 20:14-15

  17. We believe that there is one true universal Church under Christ’s headship made up of genuine believers in Jesus Christ, composed of multiple local churches exercising autonomous authority in various localities.

    Acts 15:22; Matt 16:18, 18:15-20; 1 Peter 2:4-10
